pre-mixed salt’s & sugars

First, thank you to all for the great response to our request for help with pre-mixing salt and sugar packets for Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). We are changing our suggested recipe slightly, due to the following information:

Thank you so much for your willingness to help. Right now ORS is a huge need throughout Haiti. Zanmi Lasante is working to provide ORS treatment in the communities where we work across the Artibonite and Central Plateau.

The Haitian Ministry of Health suggests the following formula to prepare one’s own ORS solution:

1 liter clean water
3 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt (finely ground)
1 small pinch bicarbonate
1 squeeze lime juice (optional for taste)

Mesaj #9’
Kouman pou nou prepare sewòm pou yon lit dlo
– Byen lave yon boutèy kola oswa yon boutèy granmanjè avèk dlo trete
– Vide 3 boutèy kola dlo trete oswa 2 boutèy granmanjè dlo trete nan yon veso ki lave ak
klowòks
– Vide yon ti sachè sewòm oral nan dlo a
– Bwase li ak yon kiyè oswa yon louch ki lave ak klowòks
– Si ou pa gen ti sachè sewòm oral la :
– Mete 3 tikiyè sik
– Mete 1 tikiyè sèl
– Bwase li ak yon louch ki lave ak klowòks
– Itilize yon veso ki lave ak klowòks pou bwè dlo a
– Kouvri dlo a ak kouvèti ki lave ak klowòks chak fwa nou fin sèvi

So, please use the above recipe (3 tspn sugar to 1 tspn salt and a pinch of baking soda) for the dry mix packets. (Don’t add the lime to these dry-mix bags).

Thanks,

Jim
