Saturday, October 10th, members of Health4Haiti participated in the 2nd annual “Surgical Day of Giving” in Pueblo, Colorado. Around 40 people without health insurance received free gallbladder, hernia, ENT, and gynecological surgeries at the Pueblo Surgery Center.
One year ago, the event was started by general surgeon Paul Radway of International Surgical Missions of Pueblo and local anesthesiologist Ben Massey of Pueblo Surgery Center and Health4Haiti, with support from Cameron Allen of Colorado Technical University and others. Doctors, nurses, surgery techs, students, and non-medical volunteers from all over Colorado who either have or would like to participate in medical missions to third world countries join in to provide a day of surgical care to the needy in their “own backyard”. Other medical facilities in Pueblo contribute their support: Parkview Hospital, St Mary-Corwin Hospital, and Parkwest Surgery Center.
